Cowpea Tohono O’odham
One 3 inch fiber pot containing 3 Tohono O’odham cowpea seedlings. Highly drought- and heat-tolerant variety often used for summer cover crops. 6-7 in. purple-tinged pods. Earthy- flavored seeds have black and white markings like Holstein cows. For fresh use, harvest when seeds have filled the green pods, but before seeds have hardened. For dried use, make sure to harvest dried pods before rain or else seeds will mold. Let dried pods finish drying under cover in a rodent-proof space. This vegetable seems to have a different name in each section of the country. Cowpeas are also called southern peas, field peas, crowder peas, and black-eyed peas. Saturday, July 19th our take home meal will be Beer-brined Pork Ribs with Green Beans. We take pork ribs and place them into a brine of water, beer, lime juice, salt and black pepper. The ribs are then cooked on the grill and served with a side of blanched green beans and garnished with pico de gallo. Just heat it up and dinner is done! 🤗 Our ready-to-heat meals are made to serve one person but if prepared with a starch or an additional side they could feed two people. These ready-to-heat meals are cooked fresh the day before the market, packed, and frozen. We have designed them for you to have simple but marvelous meals at home. Just pick them up at the market, pop them in your freezer or refrigerator when you get home, then simply heat them up in the microwave or oven when you want. Heads of cured basque garlic. This hardneck variety has bulbs that are uniform in shape with easy to peel 6-8 cloves per bulb. Basque garlic is small but mighty in flavor and is one of the best roasting varieties - it is like candy when roasted! This hardneck Turban type with flattened bulbs occasional purple striping from Basque Country in the in the autonomous province of Navarre (Nafarroa), Northern Spain.
